The Harper School Library is open every school day from 7:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. During regular class and tutorial times, students must present a pass to the librarian. Students are not to leave the library without permission. Students are welcome to use the library before school and during lunch without a pass; however, a pass from a teacher is required for all Internet use. Internet use is limited to educational purposes only.
Students are allowed to check out two books. Books may be checked out for two weeks and may be rechecked if another student has not requested that title. When research is in progress, some materials will not be allowed to circulate outside the library so that all students may have access to those materials during class time.
Charges for late books are assessed at 5 cents per day, not counting weekends or holidays. Students with lost books will be charged the purchase price of the book. If found and returned, a refund will be made for the cost of the book, minus the fine.
Our library exists for two major purposes. The first is to promote and foster reading. The second is to provide materials and reference services for the completion of class assignments and research projects. To achieve these functions, a quiet environment is desirable. Consequently, students are expected to share in the responsibility of maintaining an environment which allows the library to serve the needs of all students. Students’ behavior and actions should respect the rights of others to study or use the library.
